Windows 95/98 Setup/Support


  

Server settings/information for any email client.

Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - mail.hei.net

Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP) - mail.hei.net

POP3 Username - yourusername (all lower case and one word)

Your email address will be yourusername@hei.net

 

What You Need to Get Started:

  • A Windows 95 machine with a functioning Internet connection
  • The Internet Explorer, available free from Microsoft by clicking here

    Configuring Outlook Express Email

    1. Start Outlook Express. You can get to this program by going to your start menu, then programs, then outlook express. You can also start Internet Explorer, then click the read, then mail button.

    2. If you get the setup wizard, you can skip this step. Select tools then accounts. Then click ADD, then MAIL.

    3. First prompt will be your name prompt. Key in your real name then click NEXT.

    4. Key in your email address as assigned by HEI. Click NEXT

    5. The Email Server is a POP3 server

    6. On the POP3 account field, key in mail.hei.net

    7. On the SMTP account field, key in mail.hei.net. Click NEXT

    8. The prompt, key in your username and password as assigned by HEI. Click NEXT

    9. If you get a prompt that asks for a friendly name, You can just leave what it defaults to and click NEXT. The applies mainly to Outlook Express 4.0

    10. In Outlook Express 4.0, it will ask you how you connect to the internet. Select "I connect using my phone line" and select "HEI" as the dial up networking account.

    11. Click Finish. If you are done setting up accounts, you can click CLOSE.

    Configuring Outlook Express Newsgroups

    1. Start Outlook Express. You can get to this program by going to your start menu, then programs, then outlook express. You can also start Internet Explorer, then click the read, then mail button.

    2. If you get the setup wizard, you can skip this step. Select tools then accounts. Then click ADD, then NEWS.

    3. Enter your real name. Click NEXT 4. Key in your email address. Click NEXT 5. For news server, key in news.hei.net. Click NEXT 6. If you get a prompt that asks for a friendly name, You can just leave what it defaults to and click NEXT. The applies mainly to Outlook Express 4.0

    7. In Outlook Express 4.0, it will ask you how you connect to the internet. Select "I connect using my phone line" and select "HEI" as the dial up networking account.

    8. Click Finish. If you are done setting up accounts, you can click CLOSE.
