Configuring Internet Mail
Internet Mail is the IP e-mail client included with the Microsoft
Internet Explorer web browser.
with HEI Communications, their Internet Mail settings should be fine. Here is the process to
check and/or
edit these settings. Fortunately it's a fairly easy process.
|
To get there, choose ONE of the following.
Note: The first method is generally better, since opening Internet
Explorer usually brings up a Connect to window, which might confuse
the user. However, some users (including NT users) might not be
able to do the first method.
|
|
Method 1
Click Start.
Click Programs.
Click Internet Mail.
|
|
Method 2
- Open Internet Explorer (double-click on The Internet
icon).
- Click on the Mail button.
- Choose Read Mail.
|
|
You're now in the main Internet Mail window. The only settings you need
to worry about are under Options... in the Mail menu.
|
Click on the Mail menu.
Choose Options....
|
|
Once you're in Options, click on the Server tab.
|
|
|
|
You're free to put whatever you want in the Name: field.
This name will show up next to your email address in email you send, so
you probably shouldn't use anything offensive. :-)
Make sure your full email address (with @hei.net)
is in the Email Address field.
Outgoing Mail Server should read mail.hei.net
Incoming Mail Server should read mail.hei.net
Under Logon settings, make sure the first radio button
is selected.
Make sure your username is in the Account Name field
(without the @hei.net part).
Make sure your password is entered in the Password field.
Click on the Connection tab.
|
Select the I use a modem to access my email radio button.
|
Make sure I use a modem to access my email is selected.
The Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection field
should read HEI, unless you've named your DUN connection
differently. If it's blank or you need to change it, choose a new DUN
connection from the drop-down menu. If there aren't any choices in the
drop-down menu, you need to create a DUN
icon.
Click OK.
